What changed
Anthropic introduced Claude Haiku 5.5 on October 7 for high-volume tasks such as summarization, classification and narrowly scoped subagent work. The company says it is its fastest model at standard speed and its first Haiku model with an adjustable effort setting. Those performance claims come from Anthropic’s own evaluations.
Pricing
For prompts up to 100,000 tokens, Anthropic lists $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens. For longer prompts, the rates rise to $0.50 and $2.50. The company says its average cost per task is about 75% lower than Haiku 4.5, accounting for both price changes and token use. The actual saving depends on prompt length and workload.
Access and safeguards
The API identifier is claude-haiku-5-5. Anthropic says the model is available on its platform and through Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. Its announcement describes cyber and biology safeguards and links to a system card for evaluation details.
