A report model researchers can run

Ai2’s AstaBrief 8B generates cited reports from a question and retrieved research excerpts. Its weights and associated training-data collection are public, and Ai2 has added the model to Asta’s Fast report mode. The release also includes an example workflow for reports from local PDFs.

Ai2 reports faster generation than its Claude-powered Thinking mode in the Asta pipeline. Its speed and quality comparisons reflect the team’s own tests, much of which used 2025-era models. A citation can still support a narrower finding than the wording of a generated report, so source checking remains necessary.
