The new submission rule
arXiv’s October 1 policy allows each submitter up to two submissions per calendar month across all categories and keeps the existing limit of three active submissions at any one time. Rejected submissions count toward the monthly limit; papers deleted before announcement do not. Co-authors are not charged a slot when another person submits a shared paper.
arXiv says rising submission volume, including more thin and AI-written papers observed by its moderators, prompted the stopgap rule. AI use remains permitted when disclosed and when the research meets arXiv’s standards. The cap applies to all submitters, regardless of whether they use AI.
