Resignation and response

Business Insider reported that David Robinson, a leader in OpenAI’s safety transparency work, resigned. Robinson then publicly argued that the company’s launch pace and culture do not provide enough care for powerful AI. The criticism is his view, distinct from the reported fact of his departure.

OpenAI told TechCrunch it is strengthening research security, outside evaluation and monitoring, and that it will slow or hold back models when needed. The reviewed reports do not independently assess those measures. Robinson’s resignation is a separate event from the recent departures of three other OpenAI safety researchers.
