A spoken view through the camera
Google launched Guided Vision in Gemini Live on October 1 for compatible Android devices. When a user shares the phone camera, the feature can describe nearby objects, read small text and respond to follow-up questions. It can also give spoken prompts to reposition the camera when an object is outside the frame. Google says it developed the feature with blind and low-vision testers and the visual assistance service Aira.
Availability and limits
Google says Guided Vision is available on Android 9 and later where Gemini Live is supported. Users can enable it in the Gemini app, through an Android accessibility shortcut or from TalkBack. The company cautions that generated descriptions can be wrong and that the feature is not intended for navigation, obstacle detection or safe-travel guidance. It is not a replacement for a white cane or other mobility aid.
