Reuters reported on October 8 that more than 120 US lawmakers raised concerns about Google’s proposed purchase of Spirit Airlines’ internal data for AI training. The lawmakers asked that employee information be excluded as far as possible. Google said it does not want personal information and that any such information would be excluded or de-identified by an independent third party before receipt. A privacy ombudsman recommended approval after excluding passenger personal information, but a bankruptcy judge’s hearing on the sale was still scheduled for October 14.
