Google opened a dedicated SynthID Detector site for wider watermark checks on supported images, video and audio, following an earlier limited test.
What happened lately
Google’s SynthID Detector portal is live, and TechCrunch reports that access has widened beyond an earlier test for selected journalists, media professionals and researchers. The service checks supported image, video and audio files for SynthID watermarks used by participating AI systems. A missing watermark does not prove a file was made without AI, because many systems use other marks or none. The portal’s existence is confirmed; its accuracy across all supported formats has not been independently tested in the reviewed sources.
