A customer-managed option

IBM announced a self-hosted deployment option for IBM Bob on October 1. Bob is its AI-assisted software-development and modernization platform. IBM says organizations can run it on premises, in private or sovereign clouds, and in air-gapped environments. The option is aimed at teams that need to keep sensitive source code, application context and development workflows inside infrastructure they control.

Model and governance boundaries

According to IBM, customers can run supported models they have licensed on premises or connect Bob to supported external model services in a hybrid configuration. Self-hosting therefore does not imply that every deployment is isolated from outside services; that depends on the chosen setup. IBM frames the release around data residency, security policy and governance for regulated or mission-critical software. The announcement does not provide a complete list of supported models, pricing or independent evidence that the new option meets any particular customer’s compliance requirements.
