A constrained choice API
OpenAI previewed a Decisions API at its September 29 DevDay, according to TechCrunch’s September 30 report. The publication quotes CEO Sam Altman describing a way to have the company’s Luna model select from predefined options. The examples include classifying images and choosing among possible agent behaviors. Altman said focusing the model on a choice is intended to make the response fast while retaining image understanding, language coverage and safety protections.
Still a limited preview
TechCrunch compares the product to TypeSafe AI’s Jev, which also targets fast, structured decisions. That comparison is the publication’s assessment, not evidence that the two systems have matching accuracy, prices or interfaces. TechCrunch says Decisions API is in limited preview and that it has not yet seen developers test it publicly. Performance and calibration in real applications therefore remain open questions.
