OpenAI textGrain EU watermark rollout timeline
The Verge reported on October 5 that OpenAI is introducing textGrain, an invisible machine-readable watermark for generated text. OpenAI’s announcement, quoted by the publication, says eligible ChatGPT and Codex users in the EU will receive the feature gradually over the coming weeks. API customers worldwide can opt in for select models. Detector access will initially be limited to approved researchers and expert organizations because missed detections and false positives remain possible. A watermark can signal origin, but cannot establish a text’s accuracy, ownership or degree of human contribution.
