TIME reported on October 8 that a yearlong investigation led by Senators Elizabeth Warren, Chris Van Hollen and Richard Blumenthal questioned technology companies’ claims about the benefits and costs of large data centers. According to TIME, investigators sought information from seven developers and examined permanent employment, tax incentives, nondisclosure agreements and who pays for new power infrastructure. The findings are attributed to the senators’ investigation; the report does not itself establish new binding rules for developers or utilities.
