A store-wide workspace for Sidekick
Shopify announced Canvas on October 1 as a new workspace for designing an online store with its Sidekick AI agent. Merchants can view multiple store pages together, zoom into details and ask Sidekick to change the design through chat. They can also select elements and edit them directly. Shopify says the workspace renders the store’s real theme code, so merchants can inspect interactive behavior and layouts on different screen sizes while changes appear.
A gradual rollout
Canvas is rolling out to merchants over the coming days, according to Shopify. The company says Sidekick now works directly with theme files, checks its code and reviews screenshots of the rendered result. Those are Shopify’s descriptions of its workflow, not independent evidence that every generated design or code change will be correct. Shopify calls the product early and says Canvas is not replacing the existing editor yet. TechCrunch separately reported the launch and described how the new interface brings Sidekick’s existing editing abilities into a whole-store view.
