Singapore on-device Gemma scam detector timeline

Google DeepMind and Singapore’s Government Technology Agency say they developed a lightweight Gemma-based scam detector that analyzes conversations on a phone. A small first-stage classifier screens messages, while a fine-tuned model looks at more conversational context before an on-device warning. The partners say they trained with anonymized scam-report and intelligence data, excluding private citizen information. Their October 14 announcement describes a model that messaging platforms and device makers can integrate; it does not identify a broadly available consumer rollout or publish independent field-effectiveness results.
