What is this?
OpenHands is an open-source platform for software-development agents. It gives an agent a working environment in which it can inspect a repository, use tools and carry out a development task.
Why it matters
The important unit here is the environment around the model. A coding agent needs a workspace, tool permissions, an execution loop and a way for a person to inspect the result. OpenHands is useful because those boundaries are visible in a public project.
Who should look at it?
Teams evaluating self-hosted coding agents, agent runtimes or repository automation should use it as a reference point. It is also a useful comparison target when a hosted coding product hides most of its execution model.
What to inspect
Start with the runtime, tool permissions and task lifecycle. The key questions are how changes are isolated, how failures are surfaced and how a human can review the agent’s work before it becomes a merge or deployment.
