Why now Reuters published an English account of The Information's October 12 report about a proposed move of three federal AI testing officials.

A proposed shift in oversight staff

The Trump administration plans to move three senior officials from its AI testing agency to the White House, The Information reported on October 12, according to an English Reuters account republished by U.S. News. Reuters says the officials work at the Commerce Department’s Center for Advancing Innovation and Standards for Super Intelligence, or CAISSI, which evaluates advanced AI models. Their names were not disclosed. The report says they would answer to White House science and technology policy director Michael Kratsios and National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross.

What remains unconfirmed

The Information attributed the plan to a White House official, Reuters reported. That official described coordination problems with Commerce as a reason to move CAISSI leadership closer to White House AI decisions. Reuters said it could not immediately reach the White House or Commerce Department for comment. The reporting therefore supports a proposed staffing change, not a completed transfer, a new testing mandate or a change to model-safety requirements. Whether the administration formally announces the move, and how it would affect CAISSI’s work, remains open.
