Claude enters Google Docs, Sheets and Slides in public beta
Paid Claude users can work with a new sidebar inside Google files, while separate connectors can create and edit files from Claude.
A sidebar inside Google files
Anthropic has opened Claude for Google Workspace in public beta on all paid Claude plans. The add-on runs in a sidebar in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, where it can read the open file and selected text, cells or slides and make changes in place. Anthropic says it can propose text edits in Docs, create formulas and charts in Sheets, and build slides using an existing deck’s layouts. The Verge reported the launch on October 6. The public beta is an available integration, not a claim that every described task will be completed accurately in every file.
Editing controls and separate connectors
The default setting, “Ask before edits,” shows a summary and waits for approval before each change. Users can instead select “Accept all edits,” which lets Claude apply changes as it works. Anthropic also released separate beta connectors that create or edit Google files from a Claude conversation. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner must enable those connectors. Anthropic says the tools follow the user’s existing Google sharing permissions and that its enterprise audit and encryption controls extend to the add-on. Those access and control descriptions are vendor claims; organizations should test them in their own Workspace setup before relying on the integration for sensitive material.
