HackerRank makes Chakra AI interviewer generally available
The agent observes candidates working through coding tasks and asks follow-up questions, while HackerRank says human employers retain the final hiring decision.
An interview built around the work
HackerRank made its Chakra AI interviewer generally available to customers on October 5 after around six months of beta testing, TechCrunch reported. A candidate works on a task in a real code repository with an AI assistant available in the workspace. Chakra observes the process and can ask why the candidate chose an approach or how it would change under a new constraint. HackerRank says it scores judgment, critical thinking and the ability to work with AI, rather than looking only at the finished code.
Hiring judgments still need scrutiny
HackerRank chief executive Vivek Ravisankar told TechCrunch that Chakra produces a candidate score but does not make the final hiring decision, which remains with people. The company’s product page also says it tests for consistency and bias. Those are company claims, not independent proof that its scores predict job performance or treat every group fairly. TechCrunch noted that automated hiring tools can inherit bias from their data and criteria, and that some uses are subject to audit and notice requirements. Employers adopting Chakra still need to examine how its assessments work in their own hiring process.
