OpenAI and Atlassian expanded partnership ecosystem Verified

OpenAI and Atlassian deepen Rovo and Codex integration

An expanded agreement brings newer OpenAI models into Atlassian's AI products and more project context into ChatGPT and Codex, without making Rovo exclusive to one provider.

Why now OpenAI announced the expansion on October 6; VentureBeat reported the agreement at 13:17 UTC and clarified Atlassian's multi-model approach.

New model access and shared work context

OpenAI and Atlassian have expanded a partnership that began in 2023. OpenAI says its newer models, including GPT-6 Astra and the GPT-5.6 series, will power more agent experiences across Atlassian’s platform and Rovo. Atlassian’s Teamwork Graph connects work items, people, documents and decisions, giving those agents project context. OpenAI also describes Atlassian plugins that let ChatGPT and Codex users bring Jira and Confluence information into their workflows, subject to existing permissions. The announcement builds on integrations the companies already had; it does not mean every proposed agent feature is available today.

A broader agreement, not an exclusive model switch

VentureBeat reported that an OpenAI representative characterized the new commercial arrangement as a spending commitment by Atlassian, without disclosing contract terms. Atlassian told the publication that GPT-6 Astra is not becoming Rovo’s default model. Rovo instead routes work among OpenAI and other providers according to the task, capability and cost. OpenAI says the companies are exploring deeper Jira integrations for assigning work to agents, tracking progress and reviewing results. Those are future plans, not verified current features. The specific impact on customer costs, reliability and productivity remains to be established in deployments rather than inferred from the partnership announcement.
