OpenCode 2.0 gets a fresh launch push, with plugin and API changes for upgraders
A new Product Hunt listing puts the open-source coding agent in front of developers; the version 2 migration guide spells out what changes for existing users.
A new launch for an existing major version
OpenCode 2.0 appeared as a new Product Hunt launch on October 12, giving the open-source coding agent a fresh audience. The listing describes terminal, desktop and web interfaces. OpenCode’s own English version 2 documentation confirms installation paths for a CLI and desktop app, plus a pair command for accessing its local web interface. The Product Hunt date marks this promotional listing; it does not establish when the first version 2 build became available.
What existing users need to check
The more consequential detail for developers is in OpenCode’s migration guide. It identifies three intentional breaking changes: a new plugin API, changed server API contracts and a move from layered terminal configuration files to one global cli.json file, which the project says is automatically migrated. The guide says supported version 1 configuration generally remains usable, but plugins and integrations calling the server API need porting. Both versions use the opencode command by default, so a version 2 installation may replace a version 1 binary. Those are the project’s compatibility claims, not a guarantee that every existing setup will work unchanged.
