Photon raises $4.5M to bring AI agents into messaging apps
The startup is funding a developer platform that lets agents work through services people already use, including iMessage and WhatsApp.
An agent layer for messaging
Photon has raised $4.5 million in seed funding for software that connects AI agents to messaging services, TechCrunch reported on October 1. The startup’s product site describes an open-source framework spanning iMessage, WhatsApp and Telegram, among other channels. TechCrunch also describes a managed service with developer tools for deploying and observing agents. The seed round was co-led by Gradient and A*, with Vercel among the participants, according to the report. The funding is a new step for a company betting that developers can reach users inside services they already open each day.
Photon told TechCrunch that more than 40,000 developers had signed up and that revenue had grown tenfold in four months. It did not disclose the starting or current revenue amount, so the growth figure cannot establish the scale of the business. Founder Daniel Tian argues that agents could eventually replace many standalone mobile apps. That is his forecast, not an observed industry shift. The concrete product today is infrastructure for agent conversations across messaging channels; adoption, reliability and user preference still need to be judged in actual deployments.
