Pi's Synthetic plugin updates its DeepSeek fallback and alias costs
Version 1.2.6 refreshes the backup catalog for Pi users, adds GLM 5.3 and DeepSeek V4.1-Flash entries, and removes a retired model export.
A routing update for Pi users
Ben Vargas has released version 1.2.6 of the community Synthetic provider extension for the Pi coding agent. Its backup catalog now includes GLM 5.3 and DeepSeek V4.1-Flash, while the syn:large:text fallback entry follows Synthetic’s move to DeepSeek V4.1-Flash, according to the release notes.
The practical change concerns what Pi can display when startup model discovery fails, times out after three seconds, or returns no supported models. The live discovery path is unchanged. This release updates an existing integration; it does not launch a new DeepSeek model or make inference available without an internet connection. Requests still go to Synthetic’s hosted service.
Check aliases, costs and imports
Synthetic’s syn:* aliases can change their underlying model. The maintainer’s October 13 pricing snapshot updates syn:large:text to $0.60 per million input tokens and $1.20 per million output tokens, previously $0.15 and $0.50. These are documented catalog values, not an independent billing check; /synthetic-models shows the live catalog.
The release also removes the retired GLM 5.2 fallback entry and its GLM_5_2_MODEL_ID export. The notes explicitly warn that removing that export can break consumers importing it directly, even though the package version is a patch increment. Users with such imports should migrate to a supported model constant.
Install into the host, bring provider access
The MIT-licensed extension requires Pi 0.77.0 or later. The documented installation route is pi install npm:@benvargas/pi-synthetic-provider; pi -e npm:@benvargas/pi-synthetic-provider tries it without a permanent installation. A Synthetic API key is required, supplied through SYNTHETIC_API_KEY or Pi’s authentication storage. /synthetic-quota exposes available usage limits.
This is an extension loaded inside Pi, with access to configured provider credentials, rather than a separate application with a newly established permission boundary. AITrending reviewed the English release, tagged documentation and package metadata, but has not independently tested model routing or inference results.
