RemoveMacAI launch Verified

RemoveMacAI offers a way to remove downloaded Apple Intelligence models

The open-source macOS utility aims to disable Apple Intelligence and reclaim model storage, with a documented path to restore the features.

Why now MacRumors reported the tool on October 5 at 11:12 UTC; The Verge followed at 13:47 UTC, and its repository published a new release that day.

An alternative to scattered settings

RemoveMacAI is an open-source command-line utility for Apple silicon Macs running macOS 27. Its developer says the tool switches off Apple Intelligence features, removes downloaded AI models through Apple’s asset service and installs a configuration profile intended to stop those models from returning. MacRumors and The Verge reported on the project on October 5. The repository documents commands to inspect the current state, preview changes and reverse them. It says the tool does not require disabling System Integrity Protection or manually deleting protected system files.

Storage gains depend on the device

The developer estimates that the downloaded models can use about 12GB, while The Verge reported a different storage figure on one MacBook Air. Neither number is a universal saving. Removing the models also disables features including Writing Tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, summaries and the ChatGPT extension, according to the project documentation. MacRumors noted that some configuration restrictions used by the tool have been deprecated, so later macOS updates could change whether its approach works. The release and documentation are verifiable, but the tool’s reliability across Macs and future updates has not been independently established here.
