Rivercell announces $25 million seed round for AI virtual cell work
The Paris startup plans to expand a wet lab and cell-response data platform, then train a model to predict how cells react to treatments.
Funding for a biological data engine
Paris-based Rivercell announced a $25 million seed round on October 7, led by HV with HCVC, Alven and Bpifrance Digital Venture participating. EU-Startups separately reported the financing as approximately EUR 22 million. The company says the money will expand its wet lab and a platform for generating measurements of how human cells change after drugs or genetic interventions. Its stated goal is to train an AI Virtual Cell model on time-resolved, multimodal observations rather than rely only on existing public biology datasets.
A research plan, not a demonstrated cure
Rivercell says a model trained on this data could eventually predict cellular responses and reduce some physical experiments. That is the company’s intended research outcome; the announcement does not present independent validation of a finished model, clinical results or an approved treatment. The company also says it wants the platform to work across disease areas, including cancer, immune conditions and rare diseases. Whether the planned data collection will support predictions across those settings remains to be tested. The financing is a concrete development for the startup, while its broad drug-discovery claims are still prospective.
