Shunt tackles empty tool inputs when Claude Code runs another provider's model
The community gateway's 0.56.0 release preserves tool arguments delivered at completion and adds an installer for its Mac and Linux release binaries.
Keep the coding tools, change the inference route
Shunt 0.56.0 addresses a concrete failure in running an alternative model behind Claude Code: a tool call can arrive without its arguments after the gateway translates the provider’s stream. The October 16 release says it now delivers function-call arguments supplied only in completion events and defers output items behind an unfinished function call.
The original issue describes Shunt 0.55.1 ignoring complete arguments when the upstream did not send argument-delta events. The reported result was an empty tool input and Claude Code’s Invalid tool parameters error. The release lists fixes for that path and for interleaved output. These are maintainer-reported protocol changes, not an AITrending reproduction or a guarantee that every provider and streaming sequence is compatible.
Shunt is a community inference gateway rather than a model, an official Claude Code plugin or a replacement editor. Its documented approach routes requests by the selected model ID: mapped requests go to another configured provider while Claude Code retains its tool loop and skills. Unmapped models use the configured fallback, which defaults to Anthropic passthrough. Keeping the harness does not make the substituted model’s behavior identical to Claude’s.
Installation gets a release-binary route
Version 0.56.0 also adds an install.sh script that installs a binary from GitHub releases. The tagged English README documents macOS and Linux release binaries for arm64 and x64, Homebrew installation with brew install pleaseai/tap/shunt, and a Cargo source-build route. It warns that the pre-1.0 software can change configuration and behavior between versions.
The example setup starts a gateway on 127.0.0.1:3001 and points Claude Code’s ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL at it. Operators then select a model ID mapped in the gateway configuration. Provider credentials or supported subscription logins remain necessary; the MIT-or-Apache-2.0 software license does not include model usage. The project also cautions that unofficial subscription-client support depends on provider policy, and that its Antigravity OAuth route conflicts with the terms it cites.
For users already experimenting with selective model routing, the immediate value is fewer broken tool handoffs and a simpler binary installation path. The release is an update to that gateway workflow, not a newly released foundation model or proof of universal account access.
