American Express introduced an Intent Intelligence Framework for purchases made by AI agents, according to TechCrunch’s October 13 English report. Amex says the design records customer instructions and constraints before a transaction, asks the customer to authenticate and approve the intent, and then uses an intent identifier and proof-of-intent token in the payment flow. The company wants the approach to become an industry standard and is discussing implementation with payment partners. Those ambitions are not evidence of broad adoption or proven prevention of unauthorized purchases.
