Anthropic Attack Surface Research timeline

Anthropic reports using Claude to map default code reachability, early execution paths and security-sensitive configuration interactions in 25 open-source projects. The October 20 report counts 493 issues; that is not a count of independently confirmed exploitable vulnerabilities.

Its OpenSSH case study describes moving algorithm allowlist checks ahead of parsing and certificate signature verification. OpenSSH’s October 6 release notes independently confirm earlier key and CA signature checks and credit Chris Rohlf, Claude and Anthropic Research. The estimated reduction of roughly one fifth in reachable pre-authentication code comes from Anthropic. A reusable analysis skill is described as being prepared for OSS Scanner integration.
