Two access deadlines
Reddit plans to stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026, and end public API access by March 2027, according to TechCrunch’s account of the company’s September 30 announcement. Reddit told TechCrunch that RSS has become a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse. Approved third-party developers are being asked to register their apps and bots by January 12, 2027, to avoid disruption.
Effects beyond AI training
The changes affect ordinary RSS readers, moderator alerts, research tools and AI products that currently rely on public access. TechCrunch reports that Reddit recommends a Discord Relay app for some moderator alerts, but says there is no replacement for RSS feeds used outside moderators’ own communities. The report connects the restrictions to Reddit’s AI data licensing business; that commercial motive is the publication’s interpretation, distinct from Reddit’s stated reason of scraping and abuse. The shutdown dates are planned, not completed changes.
