Reddit sets dates to end RSS feeds and public API access

Reddit says RSS will stop on November 13 and public API access will end by March 2027 as it responds to scraping and automated abuse.

Why now Reddit's September 30 announcement gives users, moderators, researchers and AI developers concrete deadlines to replace public-data workflows.

What Reddit plans to close

Reddit will stop supporting its RSS feeds on November 13, 2026, and end public API access by March 2027, TechCrunch reports from the company’s September 30 update. Reddit described RSS as a common route for large-scale scraping and automated abuse. The dates describe planned changes: RSS and the public API have not already shut down. Reddit also asked developers of approved third-party apps and bots to register them by January 12, 2027, to avoid losing access under its new arrangements.

Who needs another route

RSS readers, moderator alert systems, researchers and AI assistants can all depend on public Reddit data. TechCrunch says Reddit recommends a Discord Relay app for some moderator alerts, while acknowledging that it has no replacement for feeds consumed outside moderators’ own communities. The article also notes Reddit’s paid AI data licensing business, but that commercial connection is TechCrunch’s analysis; Reddit’s stated reason for these restrictions is scraping and abuse.

The practical result will depend on the use case and any approved access agreement. A registered developer app may follow a different path from an anonymous RSS reader or an AI product using the public API. The deadlines give affected users time to audit those dependencies before feeds and public endpoints change.
