OpenAI previews College Planner and new study tools for ChatGPT teens
The planned College Planner would organize applications and financial aid deadlines; an iOS note-capture feature is available now.
A planner that is still to come
OpenAI said on October 7 that it plans to add College Planner to ChatGPT for Teens. The proposed tool would put application requirements, deadlines, tasks and financial-aid steps for multiple schools into one timeline that students can revisit. OpenAI says the first version is being designed for US students in grades 10 through 12 who intend to apply to four-year colleges. It wants to support other countries and paths later, including two-year and technical colleges. The Verge reported that OpenAI gave no firm launch date beyond saying the feature would arrive soon. The announcement therefore describes a planned product, not a service already available to every teen.
Study features have different availability
OpenAI also announced ways to turn notes into study material. It says continuous capture of multiple photographed pages into one PDF is available on iOS, with Android support still in development. Flashcards generated from notes or a chosen topic are being added, while quiz creation from uploaded notes has been improved. OpenAI has not supplied an independent evaluation showing that these tools improve learning outcomes or that college requirements and aid deadlines will always be correct. Students will still need to confirm consequential application information with schools and counselors. The new education features are separate from the same-day dispute over ChatGPT for Teens’ safety controls; neither announcement settles that assessment.
