ChatGPT adds virtual try-on and saved shopping favorites
Users can generate clothing previews from their own photos and save products in a Favorites library as OpenAI expands ChatGPT shopping.
New ways to explore a product
OpenAI is rolling out virtual try-on and a Favorites library in ChatGPT, TechCrunch reported on October 1. A user can upload a selfie or full-body photo, then select Try On from shopping results to generate an image showing how clothing or an accessory might look. TechCrunch says a user can also upload an image of a product, such as a screenshot, and ask ChatGPT to create a preview. The separate Favorites feature saves discovered products to an in-app library alongside try-on images so they can be revisited later.
The publication reports that OpenAI is using its ChatGPT Images 2.5 model for the new shopping features. It describes the rollout as global, but that announcement is not evidence that every account already sees the button. These additions extend ChatGPT from product search and recommendations into a more visual shopping workflow.
The limits of a generated preview
Virtual try-on produces an AI-generated image, not a physical fitting. The reviewed report does not show that it can predict size, drape or comfort, or that results remain accurate across every garment and person. Its immediate value is visual exploration before a purchase decision. The feature also requires a user photo to create a personal preview; users should treat that upload as a separate choice from saving product links. TechCrunch says the app keeps try-on images in the same library as Favorites, but the report does not establish any broader claim about photo retention or use.
