Claude Haiku 5.5 launch Verified

Anthropic launches Claude Haiku 5.5 with lower API prices

Anthropic's new small model starts at $0.10 per million input tokens for prompts up to 100,000 tokens, with higher rates above that threshold.

Why now Anthropic published the Haiku 5.5 announcement on October 7, adding a lower-priced model and cutting Sonnet 5.5 cache-read prices.

A new small Claude model

Anthropic introduced Claude Haiku 5.5 on October 7 for high-volume, latency-sensitive work including summaries, classification and narrowly scoped subagent tasks. The company calls it its fastest model at standard speed and says it is the first Haiku model with an adjustable effort setting. Its published benchmark comparisons are provider-run results, not independent proof that the model will outperform alternatives on every workload. Anthropic says the API identifier is claude-haiku-5-5 and that the model is available on its platform, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.

Price depends on prompt length

For prompts up to 100,000 tokens, the listed API rates are $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens. Above that threshold, they are $0.50 and $2.50 respectively. Anthropic says Haiku 5.5 costs about 75% less per task on average than Haiku 4.5; that estimate factors in its own token-use measurements and should not be treated as a guaranteed saving. Alongside the launch, Anthropic halved Sonnet 5.5 cache-read pricing to $0.10 per million tokens. The company continues to position Sonnet and Opus as better choices for more complex agentic coding.
