OpenAI makes Codex cloud environments reusable across devices
OpenAI's DevDay update adds reusable Codex workspaces alongside new code review and repository security tools, TechCrunch reports.
What OpenAI announced
OpenAI introduced reusable cloud development environments for Codex at DevDay on September 29, TechCrunch reports. Codex already ran tasks in the cloud, but the new environments are intended to preserve a configured workspace instead of starting each remote task from an isolated, temporary setup. According to the report, developers can use Codex across their computers, phones and cloud sessions, while teams can share an environment with approved settings and permissions.
The same announcement included a refreshed Codex command-line interface with voice controls and a code review experience inside the ChatGPT desktop app. TechCrunch says that experience can summarize and explore changes before feedback is shared on GitHub or GitLab. The report also describes Codex Security Cloud, which can scan GitHub repositories on demand, on a schedule or after new commits, then investigate findings and prepare proposed fixes.
What remains to be tested
These capabilities are OpenAI’s announced features as reported by TechCrunch. The reviewed source does not independently establish faster task completion, more accurate code reviews or the effectiveness of security scans. Teams should verify how shared permissions behave and review suggested changes before relying on the new workflows in production.
