Anthropic and NVIDIA announce separate US science commitments

Anthropic pledged $150 million over three years for Genesis Mission research access, while NVIDIA valued its five-year US science commitments at $1 billion.

Why now Both companies announced their commitments at the October 8 Science: A New Golden Age event; NVIDIA's release appeared in the news feed at 14:38 UTC.

Two commitments at one science summit

Anthropic and NVIDIA announced separate multiyear commitments at the Science: A New Golden Age event in Washington on October 8. Anthropic said it would commit $150 million over three years to the federal Genesis Mission, extending Claude access to researchers at more than 15 participating agencies, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation. It plans Claude and Claude Code access, API credits, training, and technical support for several hundred research projects. The company had already announced a Department of Energy partnership last December; the new commitment expands that existing relationship.

NVIDIA separately announced commitments it values at $1 billion over five years to support US scientific research capacity. Its release names higher-education research institutions, quantum computing, and cloud providers serving government missions, and says it is collaborating on Genesis Mission projects in fusion, microelectronics, and other fields. The two headline amounts refer to different companies, periods, and mixes of resources. Neither announcement breaks out a complete cash payment schedule, so the commitments should not be read as immediate grants of those amounts. Both companies describe intended research benefits; the announcements do not yet demonstrate what scientific results the programs will produce.
