SolidCraft brings open-source CAD to AI agents through MCP
A new Rust-based parametric CAD project pairs desktop and browser modeling with an MCP server. Its 0.7 release also warns of a file-format break for older versions.
CAD with an agent interface
SolidCraft is a new open-source parametric CAD application written in Rust. Its project README shows sketches, constraints, extrudes and a feature timeline that rebuilds when a dimension changes. The same project offers desktop downloads, a browser app and a built-in MCP server, so an AI agent can call modeling tools through solidcraft-cli mcp. An English Show HN post on October 13 gave the project a public discussion, and the developer published version 0.7 later that day. AITrending has reviewed the documentation and release, not independently tested the modeling engine or agent output.
What changed in 0.7
The release notes describe fixes for sketching on stacked extrudes, selection of hidden geometry, and new sheet-metal and surface operations. They also flag a practical upgrade limit: 0.7 moves design files to format 15, and versions 0.6 and earlier cannot reopen files saved by 0.7. Older files still open in 0.7. The preceding 0.6 release renamed SolveCraft to SolidCraft and switched default saves to a zip container. This is a fresh release and community showcase for an existing project, whose repository began on October 7, rather than proof that AI-generated CAD is reliable for production designs.
