Context for people and agents

Figma introduced Specs at Config India 2026. Its release notes describe a native place for written intent, visual exploration and technical details, rolling out in open beta on paid plans. TechCrunch describes a Markdown-based editor that can live as a standalone file or alongside the canvas, referencing designs, code layers and FigJam diagrams.

The intended workflow is to give teammates and agents shared design context before they build or change a prototype. It does not establish that an agent will always obey every rule.

Figma also announced Code Layers in open beta and expanded MCP support for creating code layers, editing specs and generating images on the canvas. Availability differs across the surrounding features: code sources from GitHub and npm is in closed beta, while centralized design-system bundles are preview only. Those features should not be treated as universally available parts of Specs.
