A managed search product reaches GA

Cloudflare announced on October 1 that AI Search is generally available. The service provides a managed indexing and retrieval pipeline using Cloudflare infrastructure. Its new multimodal support can embed image pixels directly for visual search when a compatible model is selected, while retaining captions for text-based understanding. Cloudflare says scanned PDFs can be processed with optical character recognition before their text is indexed, and the maximum supported file size has increased from 4 MiB to 10 MiB.

Billing and future work

Cloudflare says billing begins November 1, 2026, with a free monthly allowance. It plans to charge for ingestion, index storage and queries rather than instance hours. The company also describes video and audio ingestion and simpler indexing for existing Cloudflare websites as future work; those capabilities are not part of the general availability release. Performance and retrieval quality in customer workloads remain to be tested independently.
