Why now The original v4.3.1 release was published October 27 at 18:35 UTC and appeared in this pass's builder shortlist. Repository activity on October 28 is a discovery signal, not the release date.

A community coding-agent toolkit is making the setup around Pi part of its own terminal interface. Gentle AI v4.3.1 lets users install, manage and update the separate Gentle Shell workspace through its terminal UI across Linux, macOS and Windows, according to its release notes.

The release was published on October 27 at 18:35 UTC. Its fresh appearance in the builder shortlist is a reason to review that release, not evidence of a new October 28 launch or measured growth.

Configuration and runtime have different owners

Gentle AI supplies configuration and workflow integrations for coding agents, including Engram memory. Gentle Shell is the separate Pi-based runtime and interface. The project’s Pi integration notes explicitly distinguish configuring an existing Pi installation from the behavior owned by the Gentle Shell package.

Version 4.3.1 adds Linux stable delivery through an opt-in installer UI and macOS terminal-UI installation with CodeGraph support on Apple Silicon. Its component pins let the updater identify changed components and reuse others, while the authors say operator state is carried across rebuilt agents and Windows updates.

The release also adds a GitHub Copilot CLI adapter to the agent catalog. That is an integration for an existing harness, not a new language model or a promise of equivalent capabilities across every supported agent.

Windows support still means a Go install

The release’s Windows installation route is the version-pinned Go command go install github.com/gentleman-programming/gentle-ai/v4/cmd/gentle-ai@v4.3.1. Official Windows binary archives and Scoop publication remain unavailable. macOS users are also given a Homebrew installation path.

After upgrading, the maintainers instruct users to run gentle-ai sync so managed agent, reviewer and runtime assets match the binary. Setup can publish launchers and adjust PATH; it is a configuration change, not simply opening a chat interface. The release does not include a new model-pricing offer or establish that inference usage is free.

The concrete appeal is less manual maintenance around a Pi workspace, plus selective updates instead of rebuilding every component. Those implementation and state-preservation claims belong to the maintainers; AITrending has reviewed the English release material but has not independently installed or benchmarked v4.3.1.
