Model Pulse Makes Hugging Face's Model Boom Easier to Compare
A new independent explorer links download histories, model families and weekly rankings, making it easier to compare what is drawing attention on Hugging Face.
A way to compare the Hub beyond one download counter
Model Pulse has emerged as a useful independent view of Hugging Face model activity. Its English README says the app plots daily download history back to July 2024, places up to five models on one chart and groups a base model with its quantizations, fine-tunes, adapters and merges. A Galaxy view maps descendants, while weekly rankings highlight downloads, growth, new breakouts and large model families. An author view summarizes a creator’s last 12 months on the Hub. The live English site was accessible during review.
The project is not affiliated with Hugging Face. Its creator says the charts draw on daily snapshots of a separate Hub statistics dataset, which Model Pulse compiles into its own data repository. Those methods make the tool more informative than a single current total, but the project description is not an independent audit of every family link or historical count. Download counters also do not identify distinct users or prove that a model was deployed.
Why it is worth a look now
Hugging Face dates the Space’s creation to October 3. It appeared in an October 12 trending snapshot, and the platform’s public metadata showed 190 likes when checked. That is evidence of present attention, not proof of a launch today or of a particular growth rate. For readers choosing among rapidly multiplying model variants, the practical appeal is seeing a model’s history and derivatives in one place before treating a headline download number as a complete picture.
