Kino is a standalone desktop video editor and media workspace, rather than a new foundation model or a plugin for an existing editor. Its founder’s November 4 Launch HN presentation describes a Remotion-based shared timeline that teammates and coding agents can edit. The company says the product first launched in 2023 and was rebuilt as an editor in 2025; its changelog documents agent integrations before the current presentation. Current documentation lists Mac, Windows and Ubuntu downloads, authenticated desktop access, a local MCP endpoint, and separate Kino and model-provider usage limits. Product behavior and efficiency claims are attributed to the company rather than independently tested.
