Sphinx is an MIT-licensed Git-hook tool for agent-assisted development, distributed as sphinx-understand on npm. Its documented reviewer reads committed changes through read-only Git tools and asks the developer about behavior, failure modes and invariants. It supports existing coding-agent workflows rather than supplying its own coding model or hosted agent service.
The project requires Node.js 22.19 or newer, Git, and macOS, Linux or WSL. Native Windows is not supported. Installation sets a global Git hooks directory, and reviewer access uses an existing supported CLI allowance or a separately configured API provider. Changed code, related files and answers are sent to that reviewer. The authors describe it as practice rather than a security gate: local hooks can be bypassed, and an LLM examiner can be wrong.
