Liseur adds spoiler-aware AI book profiles and local translation
The Android ebook reader pairs an offline character index with profiles and recaps sent to your chosen model, plus translation through local servers.
A character guide that stops where you are reading
Liseur v0.24.0 brings an AI-assisted reading workflow to its Android EPUB reader: look up a character, inspect the passages behind a profile, or recap chapters already completed. The October 16 release also adds an on-device index called Codex, a book-navigation feature separate from OpenAI’s coding product.
According to the English release notes, Codex indexes people, places and groups, opens their source passages and maps which names appear together. It works offline and only displays chapters before the reader’s current position. Its relationship map supports TalkBack and keyboard navigation.
The Reading companion is a separate component. It sends passages from before the reader’s position to the service and model the user chooses, then provides profiles and chapter recaps. The release describes that boundary as spoiler-free; AITrending has not tested whether every generated answer respects it or correctly interprets the book.
Local translation and speech, with separate setup
Page translation can use earlier text from the same chapter as context. Translated word lookup and synchronized read-aloud are also included. The documented local translation options are Ollama, LM Studio and llama.cpp, while speech can use Kokoro-FastAPI. These services require their own configuration; an offline index does not make every AI feature an on-device model.
For hosted translation models, the release adds input and output price displays for DeepInfra and Together AI. Any provider costs depend on the selected service. With a compatible liseur-sync server, saved translations can be reused across devices.
Liseur is MIT-licensed, and the release provides an Android APK; its README also links Google Play and F-Droid, without establishing when those channels receive this exact version. One backup detail matters: optional saved passwords can be protected by a backup password, but other ZIP contents, including settings and service addresses, remain unencrypted.
The useful new combination is local book navigation with configurable model assistance. Readers can see the earlier passages behind a profile while choosing where AI processing happens.
