Locally Uncensored keeps chat moving while videos render
Version 3.0.8 adds background media jobs, five-service web search and clearer permission prompts to the local desktop AI studio.
A long video job no longer has to hold up the next chat message in Locally Uncensored. The community desktop AI studio’s October 27 release, version 3.0.8, says longer video and image jobs can continue in the background while the conversation moves on. When a job finishes, its result appears in the message that requested it, with a note for the model on the following turn. Stopping a later chat turn does not cancel that earlier render.
The same release repairs an awkward media experience: generated videos now play with controls inside Chat, Agent and Code instead of appearing as broken images. Wan 2.1’s silent video paths now save H.264 MP4 files rather than animated WebP. These are maintainer-described workflow changes, not an AITrending render test.
Web search gets a fallback chain: Exa, You.com, SearXNG, DuckDuckGo and Wikipedia, with no search-service key required. The app recognizes a DuckDuckGo bot page as a failed request instead of an empty result. Page reading uses a local Readability-based path, falling back to Exa if necessary. That does not make web research offline or entirely private: search providers receive requests, and Exa sees the requested page address when that fallback is used. The maintainer warns that free services can change or impose limits.
For local media users, Settings can assign chat and ComfyUI to separate graphics cards. However, the release explicitly says those dual-card paths have only run in automated tests with simulated cards. AMD-on-Windows package selection also lacks a real-card run. The memory planner reads model headers and offers shorter context or quantized cache choices, but its context-change buttons likewise have automated-test coverage rather than a completed hardware validation claim.
Permissions change too. In Code’s Ask mode, external MCP tools now request approval like shell commands; Bypass still skips those prompts. Chat-driven settings changes show the old and new values with Accept, Decline and Undo, including in Bypass, while sensitive controls such as keys, permissions and remote access remain outside that feature.
Installers are available on the tagged release page for Windows, Linux and Apple Silicon macOS. This is a standalone AGPL-3.0-only application that can use local engines such as Ollama or LM Studio; it is not a model release or a ComfyUI plugin. Local use is free. LU Cloud plans or credits and external API providers are optional, separately charged routes, and downloaded model licenses still apply.
